The GS F is the sleeper of the F family. Four doors, a 2UR V8, and a lot of people don't notice it until it pulls away. GS F owners tend to want to keep that personality, just sharper, and that shapes how we'd plan a GS F build.

We already have a NOVEL GS F aero install guide. This post is the bigger picture: how we'd plan a whole GS F build, from coils to carbon.

The biggest takeaway first

A GS F is heavier than an RC F, and it's often a car people drive every day. So my order is coils, then exhaust and headers, then brakes and suspension together, then aero. Brakes move up the list on this car more than people expect.

Step 1: Coils

Same 2UR family as the IS F, RC F and IS 500. Coils are a wear item, and the GS F is a car that sees a lot of heat cycles. HighSpark sells their Lexus V8 coils as matched boxes of four, Standard and Premium.

Why HighSpark over stock coils? HighSpark rates the spark output at 2 to 2.5 times more powerful than an OEM coil, and they stabilize the voltage coming out of the coil, so the engine runs smoother and more stable. What you'll actually feel is throttle response. It's sharper. Now, I want to be honest here. This isn't a big horsepower part. Better combustion efficiency gets you a small gain in low-speed torque and horsepower, but it's minimal. The real win is response and a smoother-running engine.

So what's the difference between Standard and Premium? Standard is built for the street and the occasional track day. Premium is the track-focused tier, which HighSpark tunes to raise voltage starting at idle without giving up throttle response. Going by my own notes, that's about 25% better response and 7% less noise than Standard. Both are built the same way, with German copper wire and Kyocera resin. If it's a daily driver, Standard covers it. If it sees regular track days or you're adding power, that's where Premium starts to make sense.

Step 2: Exhaust and headers

For the back half, the NOVEL Valved Catback for GS F (Center Pipe + Rear Muffler) has an electronically controlled valve, so you can choose a comfortable volume or a more aggressive sound. On a car you daily, that flexibility is a big deal.

For the front half, the NOVEL GEN III Exhaust Manifold is listed for the GS F. Know your local emissions rules first, and use a shop that has done 2UR headers before. Our GEN 3 manifold post has the full rundown.

Step 3: Brakes

This is where the GS F is different. It's a heavier car, and if you add power, you want to stop it too. NOVEL and Endless make a 2PC front rotor set and 3PC rear rotor set for the RC F and GS F. We wrote about them in our NOVEL x Endless rotor post.

Pads matter too, especially if brake dust bugs you on a daily. Our low-dust brake pad guide covers the options for the F cars.

Step 4: Suspension

The NOVEL Racing Japan x Endless Zeal Racing Coilovers for GS F are listed at F 18KG / R 24KG, and the product page describes them as a racing application developed through NOVEL's Nürburgring R&D and Endless's Super GT experience. That's stiff for a four-door you drive every day. Tell us how you use the car first.

Step 5: Carbon aero

Once the stance is set, the aero goes on. NOVEL's GS F pieces we carry:

The fender ducts are a nice first step. They're a smaller piece, they arrive with mounting tape, and they change the side profile a lot. For the full install walkthrough, see our GS F aero install guide.

Tradeoffs

  • Daily comfort vs track: racing coilovers and a loud exhaust aren't for everyone's commute. The valved catback helps.
  • Budget: brakes and suspension are less exciting than headers, but on a heavier car they matter.
  • All at once saves shop visits but makes it harder to tell what you like.

GS F build fitment notes

The GS F shares the 2UR V8 family with the IS F, RC F and IS 500, so the NOVEL GEN III exhaust manifold is listed for it too. The NOVEL x Endless rotor sets are listed for the RC F and GS F together. Coilovers and aero are GS F specific, and that's where people sometimes grab the wrong listing because the RC F version shows up right next to it. Read the model on every listing, and if your car has any non-factory body parts already, tell us before ordering aero.

Install difficulty, step by step

  • Coils: easy. One at a time, cool engine, gentle with old connectors.
  • Headers: hard. Shop work, ideally a shop with 2UR experience.
  • Center pipe and rear muffler: medium for a shop with a lift.
  • Brakes: medium. Bed in new pads and rotors properly before you drive hard.
  • Coilovers: medium, then an alignment.
  • Carbon aero: medium. Test fit before drilling. Our GS F aero install guide shows the process.

Daily driving a modified GS F

A lot of GS F owners use the car every day. That changes some choices. Racing coilovers with stiff rates are great on track, but think about your commute. A louder exhaust is fun on a weekend drive, less fun at 6 AM. And low aero needs a little care on steep driveways. None of that means don't do it. It means pick the parts that match how you drive. That really does depend on your application.

Brakes: rotors and pads together

If you change rotors, think about pads at the same time. Pad choice changes dust, noise and bite. We compared low dust options in our Lexus brake pad review, which is a good starting point for a street GS F. If the car sees track days, talk to us about a pad meant for that heat.

What GS F owners usually ask us first

The first call is almost always about sound. GS F owners love the V8 but feel the factory exhaust is too polite. That's why headers and the NOVEL center pipe and rear muffler come up so early. The second question is usually about stance, because the GS F sits higher than a lot of owners want. And the third is whether the car will still be comfortable for the family. Our honest answer is that a GS F can be sharper and louder and still be a usable four door, as long as you pick parts with your real driving in mind.

Maintenance on a built GS F

  • Recheck header and exhaust hardware after the first heat cycles.
  • Recheck ride height after coilovers settle.
  • Inspect brake pads and rotors more often if you track the car.
  • Protect carbon aero from UV and road grime.

Budgeting the GS F build

We usually see GS F builds happen over months, not weeks. Coils are the small first step. Headers are the biggest single spend. Brakes and suspension come next, and aero is often last because it should fit the final ride height. That order also spreads the cost out. If you want to see the same thinking on the coupe, our RC F build guide follows it step by step, and our IS 500 build sequence does the same for the sedan.

Next step

If you're putting a plan together, the easiest thing is to add the parts you're looking at to your cart and hit Add to Quote. We'll look it over, confirm fitment and availability, and get back to you. If you'd rather talk it through first, reach out and Tania or Kenia can help with fitment and stock questions. No pressure at all. We'd rather you buy the right part once than the wrong part twice.
